The co-chairman of "Democratic Bulgaria" Atanas Atanasov sharply criticized Bulgarian institutions for their attitude towards the property of the Russian embassy on the Iskar Dam. According to him, some of the Bulgarian institutions "too negligent" fulfill their obligations on the matter.
"For more than 3 years, Bulgaria has been declared an enemy state by Russia, a property on the shore of the Iskar Dam is managed by the Russian Federation, this is a direct threat to the national security of the state", explained Atanasov.
The politician stated directly that "SANS, the regional governor - no one has taken the necessary actions to seize this property in order to eliminate this threat".
Atanasov's statement comes days after the meeting of the Commission for Control over Security Services, which he convened on July 24 to hear the acting chairman of SANS.
This concerns a land plot with an area of about 11,000 square meters, with identifier 22472.7405.1, which is located in Sofia, Pancharevo district, Dolni Pasarel village, on the bank of the Iskar Dam in the sanitary protection zone near the dam wall.
The property is fenced and has signs stating that it is managed by the Embassy of the Russian Federation. Iskar Dam is the largest reservoir in Bulgaria and provides two-thirds of the water for Sofia.
A few days ago, Atanasov requested a hearing of the acting chairman of the State Agency for "National Security", raising three key questions regarding the potential threat to national security, counterintelligence protection measures and possible actions to seize the illegal possession.
The politician also recalled the events of June 2023, when Russia blew up the wall of the "Nova Kakhovka" dam in Ukraine, which caused a huge flood and catastrophic environmental damage.
