A 12-year-old Bulgarian girl was swept into the waters off the beach of Imero, in the Rhodope region, southeastern Greece. According to information from the coast guard, she could not swim and was found lifeless in the sea. The incident occurred on Friday, August 1.
According to information from the state television ERT, the little girl entered the shallows of the sea wearing a life jacket. The waves carried her into the sea, which led to her tragic death, indicated "Nova TV".
The signal was received by a relative, who immediately contacted the Greek coastal authorities. A rescue operation was launched. It involved two ships, a helicopter, and private vessels.
The rescue teams found the child with no signs of life. After being transported by ship to the port of Maroneia, a Greek emergency team immediately began resuscitation until she was transported to a hospital in Komotini.
Despite the efforts of the resuscitation team, the girl died in the hospital. Her parents have been detained.
