A three-car accident temporarily blocks traffic in the Republic Pass.
The accident occurred at around 11.45 am, on a straight section near the former gas station in the Veliko Tarnovo village of Voneshta Voda.
According to initial information, a car driven by a man of about 70 years old crashed head-on into another. The collision caused the car to spin and hit a passing bus.
Police, fire and ambulance teams were sent to the scene. The firefighters had to cut through the crushed metal sheets to remove the driver of the car, who had caused a head-on collision, who was trapped. The man has fractures and was urgently transported to the Veliko Tarnovo hospital.
A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office. The causes of the accident are being clarified.
Due to the accident, traffic in the area was disrupted - trucks remained in place, and cars were redirected through the center of Voneshta Voda.
In the last 24 hours, 20 minor and four serious accidents have occurred in Sofia, in which one person died and 11 were injured.
Since the beginning of the month, 357 serious road accidents have occurred, with 24 deaths and 483 injuries. Since the beginning of the year, 4,140 serious accidents have been registered in Bulgaria, with 262 deaths and 5,204 injuries.
The Ministry of Interior reports 11 fewer deaths in road accidents in 2025, compared to 237 deaths during the same period in 2024.
