Brutal: The head of the Ruse Regional Directorate of Internal Affairs was beaten in front of his wife and their infant child - 1

The head of the Ruse Regional Directorate of Internal Affairs, Senior Commissioner Nikolay Kozhuharov, was beaten in front of his wife and their infant child. His condition is still serious, but his life is out of danger, the doctors assured. As a result of the beating, he lost 1.5 liters of blood. He underwent a life-saving operation, with which the doctors saved one of his kidneys. His recovery will last two months.

The regional governor of Ruse called the case “a ridiculous incident, uncharacteristic of the Ruse community”. “This is a vandalism by some young people who do not respect the law”, said Dragomir Draganov.

We recall that early Thursday morning, Senior Commissar Kozhuharov was beaten in front of his home after he made a remark to young people who were drifting with their cars. They were identified and detained. Three of them are 19 years old, and the fourth is 15. The young people have no previous criminal record. Two charges have been filed in the case.

First, an argument began, which later escalated into a fight. “One of the passengers hit Senior Commissar Kozhuharov in the back, which proved fatal”, revealed the regional governor of the Danube city. According to him, the neighbor, with whom the police chief made a remark to the youth, was also injured, but not as seriously.

„Unheard of cruelty and assault exclusively for hooligan motives. Ruse is a very peaceful city and criminal offenses are at a very low level. The Municipal Council takes care of the young population – a year ago we banned the use of electronic vehicles and introduced an unheard-of ban on the consumption of alcohol in public places”, commented the municipal councilor Eleonora Nikolova. She is adamant that the case is isolated.

„There are over 1,600 municipal cameras in Ruse – a number that few settlements of our size could boast of”, emphasized her colleague Denitsa Ivanova. The local authorities are adamant that the culprits must receive adequate punishment.

Meanwhile, the police presence in Ruse has been increased. By order of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, control over compliance with the Road Traffic Act and the prevention of aggressive and risky driving has been intensified since Friday.
