Three people got a chance at a new life after the relatives of a 52-year-old woman made the noble decision to donate her organs. The donor situation was implemented by a team from “Pirogov“.
As a result, a 54-year-old woman got a chance at life after a team from the Military Medical Academy (MMA) performed the fourth liver transplant this year.
The hospital reported that the operation lasted nearly six hours. The patient is currently in a stabilized condition.
At Alexandrovska Hospital, a medical team from the Urology Clinic transplanted kidneys to two women – at 39 years old and 45 years old.
They had chronic renal failure, they were selected with the highest percentage of organ compatibility with the donor out of a total of six invited for evaluation from the waiting list.
The 45-year-old woman, who is from Kostandovo, has been undergoing hemodialysis treatment for 11 months. The 39-year-old woman, who is from Sofia, has been on hemodialysis for 12 years.
After the intervention, the patients are recovering in the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Clinic of the hospital. Their condition is stable, with very good vital signs and diuresis, the medical institution informs.
The doctors from the three hospitals express their extraordinary gratitude to the donor's relatives, who in one of the most difficult moments in their lives found the strength and generosity to give life.
