Iliyana Yotova is a very likely candidate for president from the left side of the political spectrum. This was said in "Face to Face" on bTV by Prof. Daniel Valchev, dean of the Faculty of Law at Sofia University and former Minister of Education, quoted by novini.bg.
According to him, the big question is whether we will observe competition between party candidates in the presidential elections. In his words, this option would be "catastrophic" for the country.
"The debate should be about where Bulgaria is going", noted Valchev, emphasizing that despite the limited powers of the president, his word "weighs" a lot.
Regarding the case of the Varna mayor, he commented: "I have had occasion to say many times that the big problems in Bulgarian criminal justice are not about who the chief prosecutor is, although this issue is also important. Those who organize the protests had months and years to decide on some very simple things, such as those related to the detention measures", noted Prof. Valchev.
According to him, there is no legal point in Blagomir Kotsev remaining in custody, whatever the court's decision was. Such a thing can only be sought on political grounds.
Regarding the case of the beating of the police chief in Ruse, Valchev stressed that it is unacceptable to attack a law enforcement officer. However, he stressed that in such situations, an alcohol and drug test should be performed on all participants in the conflict.
