A policeman from Sliven shot a man with his service weapon while on duty, bTV reported.
The incident occurred on September 5, at around 4 a.m., in the village of Dragodanovo in Sliven.
A police team was called in after a report of a domestic brawl. One of the participants in the brawl saw the policemen and ran, and the uniformed officer followed him, firing a warning shot in the air. He caught up with him, a collision ensued, and the man hit the policeman, who shot him.
According to the spokesperson for the Sliven District Prosecutor's Office, Prosecutor Veneta Dobreva, the investigation will show whether the policeman fired unintentionally or in self-defense. Pre-trial proceedings have been opened for causing moderate bodily harm by an official. Forensic medical examinations are awaited.
The victim was admitted to hospital, his life is not in danger and has already been discharged. The police in Sliven told bTV that the 22-year-old man from Dragodanovo caused the scandal and fight, and hit the police officer in the head.
