80 high-end cars up to five years old have become the object of the thieves.
23 cars that cannot go unnoticed - are also taken. They are of the highest class of luxury cars up to two years old.
Thieves often take advantage of drivers' inattention. For example - 23 cars were stolen with the keys left on the dashboard. And six cars had a burning engine.
The Lioness, the Granny, the Russian, the Japanese, the Soldier – all nicknames of famous car drivers who have been arrested more than once. In the last two years alone, the handcuffs have been snapped on the Russian's hands three times.
In one of the cases, SDVR officers detained him after he used a stolen car to steal another.
"Since last week, there is a lighter measure of monetary bail. The perpetrators of car thefts are the same persons," the head of the "Vehicle-related Crimes" sector told bTV. Nikolay Peltekov.
On August 20, three old acquaintances of the police, one of them – king car and before, raise a luxury car. The stolen car was manufactured this year. It costs over 400,000 BGN and was parked in an underground garage of a residential building.
"Security makes it difficult for them. Barriers are not an obstacle. In order to commit a theft, sometimes they open roller blinds with devices, sometimes they break them," Peltekov explained.
Six days after the theft, during a joint action of the SDVR and the Border Police, the luxury vehicle was discovered. The car thieves were detained next to the car and at a time when they were preparing to change the license plate number.
"This is not news. It has always been the rule when the car is not sold for parts, but in its entirety. With a modified frame – the thieves can register the car again and sell it," Peltekov also said.
And car thieves are getting more and more inventive. Sometimes they involve relatives in their illegal business. This year, for the first time, the uniformed officers of the SDVR arrested Voinika's brother for car theft.
"He has no nickname. He is known for narcotic drugs," explained Nikolay Peltekov.
In car thefts - one of the main problems facing investigators is the difficulty of proving the crime. That is why they want legislative changes.
