The General Directorate of Anti-Mafia Operations broke up a criminal group that kidnapped a businessman, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.
He was held captive for several days, during which time he was forced to transfer his company. After the group achieved its goal, the man was released.
The work of the anti-mafia officers began on a pre-trial investigation into racketeering. The planned specialized police operation was carried out on the territory of the cities of Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv and Vratsa.
Eight properties were searched during the operation. Mobile phones, radio frequency scanning and detection devices and documents relevant to the investigation were seized.
Six men were detained. All identified members of the criminal group have been charged with various charges - kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, threats to kill, bodily harm and extortion.
The police actions were carried out under the supervision of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office.
