The body of 18-year-old Magdalena Ruseva, who had been missing since April 26, was found hidden in a can in an abandoned house in Haskovo. After four days of searching, the horrific find confirmed the worst fears, contrary to the initial claims of the police that the girl had simply run away from home.
"For 4 days, Maggie was in this house, hidden in the garage in a can! My child was in a can! My Maggie is gone!", shared the heartbroken mother Lidiya Trendafilova, "Bulgaria Dnes" reported.
Magdalena was last seen at around 4:00 a.m. on April 26, when she was leaving a friend's birthday party. Despite the relatives' concerns, the Haskovo police initially categorically denied that the girl was a victim of a crime, claiming that she had run away from her mother.
"All the lies that the police told must be drowned in them. Unscrupulous people! They are making fun of other people's pain!" - Trendafilova said. According to the mother, the police may be covering up for someone, which raises serious questions for the investigation.
A classmate of Magdalena's was arrested for the murder, who, according to her relatives, was her acquaintance, but not an intimate partner, since the girl had a relationship with another boy. According to the mother, the motive may have been related to jealousy.
Lidiya Trendafilova is categorical that the perpetrator did not act alone: "It can't be just him! There were other people involved!" In protest against the initial inaction and inappropriate statements of the police, Magdalena's relatives and friends are organizing a protest march in front of the Haskovo police station at 5:00 p.m.
Magdalena's death is particularly tragic, as the girl was about to attend her prom. An official statement from the investigating authorities is expected to shed more light on the case and the actions of the institutions.
