The Supreme Court of Cassation (SCC) has finally sentenced Adrian Antonov to six years in prison for the accident that killed Anna-Maria Malcheva (24) and Yavor Stoyanov (23).

The court's decision has been published on the institution's website and confirms the verdict of the lower court.

Antonov pleaded guilty to the charge that on the night of May 8, 2023, he was driving at over 100 km/h. This led to the accident on Blvd. “Slivnitsa“, where the two young men were hit.

In their reasoning, the supreme magistrates took into account the remorse and regret that Antonov expresses.

According to the supreme judges, the young age of Ani and Yavor cannot be considered an aggravating circumstance. This is because this is a crime of negligence, in which he did not know them, the magistrates reasoned.

They added that the correction of the defendant should prevail when determining the severity of the punishment.

On April 28, the prosecutor's office requested a more severe punishment, with the opinion that Antonov even continued to drive after the accident. The thesis was also advanced that the young man was not in control of the car he was driving.

On July 4 last year, the Sofia City Court sentenced Adrian Antonov to nine years in prison, BTA reports. After he confessed at the pretrial hearing, his sentence was reduced by a third. Thus, he received six years in prison, and his license was revoked for nine years.
