The District Prosecutor's Office – Kyustendil implemented an effective court act, by which the 34-year-old G.N., a citizen of North Macedonia, was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 8 years, with an initial “strict” regime of serving the sentence, and a fine of 50,000 leva.

The defendant was found guilty of a crime under Art. 242, para. 2, item 1 of the Criminal Code – smuggling of a high-risk narcotic substance across the country's border.

At around 10:30 p.m. on December 18, 2024, at the truck entrance of the Gyueshevo border checkpoint, a freight train with North Macedonian license plates arrived, carrying a cargo of ore to Turkey.

Customs inspectors diverted the vehicle for a thorough customs inspection. In its trailer, specially adapted hiding places were found - cavities in wooden crossboards (horizontal side partitions). 320 packages of narcotic substance - hemp - were found in them.

The total weight of the object of the crime is 128,580 kg.

The driver of the truck - The convicted G.N. was detained and brought to criminal responsibility, and subsequently brought to court with an indictment from the Kyustendil District Prosecutor's Office.
