One of the two main holidays for Muslims, Eid al-Adha - the Feast of Sacrifice, begins, marking the end of the Hajj rites - a pilgrimage to the holy places of Islam in Saudi Arabia.

The holiday will last from June 6 to 8 inclusive.

The story of Eid al-Adha is connected with the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), to whom, as described in the Quran, an angel appeared in a dream and conveyed to him the command of Allah to sacrifice his firstborn Ismail (Ishmael).

Ismail was born when Ibrahim was in old age, and this is considered a miracle by earthly standards - children are not usually born to such elderly parents. Despite all his love for the child, Ibrahim, after discussing God's command with his son, who obediently agreed to it, came to the appointed place. When Allah was convinced of the faithfulness of Ibrahim, who was ready to fulfill his will, he graciously allowed his son to be replaced by a sacrificial animal - a lamb. At the same time, the prophet received the successful birth of a second son - Isaac.
