Portugal was also close to qualifying for the World Cup, but Hungary managed to reach a late draw in Lisbon and postponed the celebrations of Ronaldo and company.
Turkey continued its penalty shootout against Georgia and recorded another big victory with 4:1.
Eire snatched an extremely valuable victory with 1:0 over Armenia and remains in the game.
Italy showed class and dealt with the classic 3:0 against Israel.
Serbia woke up and achieved success with 3:1 over Andorra, with which they remain in the fight for at least second place in their group.
