Borislav Mihaylov's hometown club Levski expressed great regret over the death of the former goalkeeper. "The Blues" said that Mihaylov was one of the club's emblems and will never be forgotten. During the unforgettable American summer in 1994, he played seven matches for Bulgaria's fourth place at the World Cup in the USA. He also played in all four matches of the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, where our country reached the round of 16. Mihaylov kept goal in all three matches of Bulgaria at the 1996 European Championship in England.

Since 2000, he has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Bulgarian Football Union and Deputy Chairman of the State Agency for Youth and Sports. Since 2001, he has been First Vice President of the Bulgarian Football Union. In the period from 2005 to 2019 and from 2021 to 2023 he was the president of the Bulgarian Football Union.
