Toronto Raptors wing Jontay Porter is under investigation for betting, as league commissioner Adam Silver called his act a “egregious sin” and stated that there is a possibility that Porter will receive a serious punishment, reported Sportal.
“What he is accused of is a huge sin and the most extreme option is to impose a life ban on him. That's the level of authority I have here. We are talking about gambling and direct participation of a competitor in bets. "The investigation is ongoing, but the consequences could be very serious," Silver told ESPN.
Porter is under investigation for betting on his individual markets at bookies before Toronto's games against the LA Clippers on January 27 and against the Sacramento Kings on March 21. According to DraftKings, in the two matchups in question, Porter's bets brought in the most money for users.
Interestingly, against the Clippers, he finished with 0 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist in 4 minutes, and against the Kings he had 0 points and 2 rebounds in 3 minutes. Between those games, Porter often averaged around 20 minutes per game, but in the two meetings in question, his participation was minimal, even though the games ended in convincing victories for Toronto's rival.
