Romania took its second title at the Paris Olympics after Sebastian Cornea and Florian Enache finished first in the men's double sculls discipline of the rowing tournament, BTA reported.
David Popovici took the other gold in swimming 100 meters freestyle, and in addition, the northern neighbors have a silver and a bronze medal each.
Cornea and Enache came decisively to the first place, covering the distance of 2 km with a time of 6:12.58 minutes. They overtook Dutch pair Melvin Tvelaar and Stef Breonink at the start of the last 500 meters and finished 1.34 seconds ahead of their rivals.
Thus, Tvelar and Brønnink finished second at the second Olympics in a row, after finishing behind Frenchmen Hugo Boucheron and Mathieu Androida in Tokyo. In Paris, the Olympic champions did not reach the A final, but instead finished second in the B final.
Exactly the opposite applies to Enache, who in Tokyo finished third in final B in the company of Ioan Prundianu. Paired with Cornea, he fulfilled his dream of an Olympic title.
The bronze award went to Irishmen Dare Lynch and Philip Doyle, who finished with a time of 6:15.17 minutes.
