Desislava Angelova placed sixth in the skiff rowing tournament at the Paris 2024 Games. The 26-year-old Bulgarian, making her Olympic debut, overcame the distance of 2000 meters on the rowing canal in Verre-sur-Marne in 7:33.19 minutes, broadcasts BTA.
Angelova got off to a good start and was fourth in the first 300-400 meters, then gradually lost speed and finished last in Final A. She is the first Bulgarian woman in an Olympic rowing final in 16 years since world record holder Rumyana Neikova, who triumphed in the same discipline at the 2008 Beijing Games.
The gold was won by the champion of the last two world championships, Caroline Florein (Netherlands). She led from the start and didn't give her competitors a chance, finishing in 7:17.28 minutes. Emma Twigg (Australia), defending her title from Tokyo 2020, this time was second with 7:19.14 minutes, and the bronze went to Viktoria Senkute (Lithuania) with 7:20.85 minutes, who with a powerful finish managed to overtake by a little more than half a second the bronze medalist of the last two World Championships Tara Riney (Australia).
Bulgaria's other representative in the Olympic rowing tournament, Christian Vassilev, placed 14th in the men's sculls after finishing second in Final C earlier today.
