Lando Norris records convincing victory in Singapore - 1

Lando Norris (Great Britain, McLaren) took a convincing victory in the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix with flag-to-flag lead, with the McLaren driver further reducing his gap to leader Max Verstappen (Netherlands, Red Bull). The world champion was second, and McLaren's excellent strategy also sent the team's second car, driven by Oscar Piastri (Australia), to the podium, BTA reported.

Norris started the race very well, coming clean into the first corner and leading the race, allowing him to avoid the chaos behind him. Lewis Hamilton (Great Britain, Mercedes) immediately attacked Max Verstappen, but the world champion managed to block him and the seven-time champion retired.

Behind them, however, there were drivers who failed to keep their cars on the track. George Russell (Great Britain, Mercedes) pushed Oscar Piastri off the line and the latter was overtaken by Nico Hulkenberg (Germany, Ferrari). Alexander Alban (Thailand, Williams) quickly gave way to his teammate Franco Colapinto (Argentina, Williams).

From that point on, Norris's comfort was almost guaranteed. He escaped the DRS reach of Verstappen, who was trailed by the two Mercedes cars. Piastre saved the situation and left Hülkenberg behind again.

By the tenth lap, Norris' lead over Verstappen was already almost five seconds, with the Brit gaining a second on each round of the Singapore street. Third behind them was Russell, while Lewis Hamilton felt very uncomfortable on this set of soft tires and dropped out of the top 10. Fourth was Piastri and at this point it looked most interesting whether the Australian was capable of wresting points from Verstappen.

This could only be done with strategy and crossings, which the leading teams are masters of. However, Red Bull made the first mistake and Verstappen went pit car to car with Charles Leclerc (Monaco, Ferrari), losing one place. Piastri also overtook Verstappen, but the Australian's tires were almost worn out and the Dutchman soon returned to second place, where he finished 20.945 seconds off.

Thus, in the general classification, Verstappen is the leader by 331 points, and Norris is 52 less. Leclerc is third in the standings and Piastri is fourth after the Australian finished third in Singapore, 41.823 seconds behind.

Russell finished fourth in today's race, and Leclerc took fifth ahead of Hamilton.
