The Italian Jazmine Paolini won the title in the women's tennis tournament in Rome, after defeating the American Coco Gauff 6:4, 6:2 in exactly 90 minutes, BTA reports. Paolini was not considered a favorite in the match by the experts, but she left little room for doubt in her class. She started very strongly in both sets of the match, taking the lead from the very beginning and winning them after 54 and 36 minutes of play, respectively.
In the first part, the Italian made a break in the first game and although Gauff returned it in the second, she made another one in the third game. This advantage turned out to be enough for her to take the first set.
In the second, Paolini started even stronger - with a 3:0 lead in the game with two breaks. The two tennis players exchanged a break immediately after that, with the Italian crushing the American's hopes of a comeback.
For the 29-year-old Paolini, this is her second title at the UTA 1000 level, but her first on clay. She is also the first Italian to become champion in Rome since Raffaella Reggie in 1985.
The Italian will also have the opportunity to do a double in Rome, as she and her partner Sara Errani play in the doubles final today. Their opponents in it will be Veronika Kudermetova of Russia and Elise Mertens of Belgium.
