Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has returned to English soil, although not as a player for the "Red Devils", writes Topsport.

The Spaniard, who left the club in July 2023 after 12 seasons at "Old Trafford", is currently part of the Italian Fiorentina and is preparing for the new season with his team based at the English Football Association's "St. George's Park".

His return did not go unnoticed, especially by his former teammates. Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes reacted emotionally to De Gea's presence, posting a message on social media showing that the goalkeeper remains close to the team's heart despite the separation.

After a season without a team, De Gea signed for Fiorentina in August 2024. In his debut campaign in Italy, the 34-year-old Spaniard established himself as a key figure, helping the "violets" reach the semi-finals of the Conference League - one of their strongest performances in Europe in recent years.

Now he and his new teammates are preparing in England for a series of tests against Leicester, Nottingham and Manchester United themselves. On the training footage that De Gea shared, he wrote: "On familiar ground again" - a message that suggests that the emotional connection with England, and especially with United, is still alive.
