Roscosmos enterprise “Satellite system “Messenger““ has developed a personal satellite communications device the size of a regular smartphone. The device is currently undergoing certification.
„Messenger“ is the only Russian low-orbit mobile satellite communication system designed for global information exchange with mobile and stationary objects, as well as for organizing relay channels for various purposes.
The Russians do not share details about the new development, but note that several models of equipment with “Messenger” are currently being tested. The latest subscriber device model is based on a new electronic component base, with the certification process expected to be completed by the end of the year.
At the end of June, it became known about the subscriber terminal "Messenger Autonomous", which fits in a backpack and provides transmission of text, voice messages, as well as small files "from anywhere in the world". And in 2020, the Russians developed a mobile complex for emergency communications, which allows you to send and receive SMS and files using a smartphone in places without a mobile network.
