The Russian Embassy in the United States has rejected comments about Moscow's involvement in "spreading disinformation" regarding the killing of American activist Charlie Kirk.
"We consider it unacceptable to use this tragedy as a pretext to incite anti-Russian hysteria", the Associated Press quoted Andrei Bondarev, a spokesman for the Russian Embassy in Washington, as saying. He added that “Russia does not interfere and does not intend to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, including the United States“.
An Associated Press report alleged that bots believed to be linked to Russia, China and Iran had been spreading disinformation about Kirk's killing on social media. On September 12, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said that Kirk's killing should not be used as a target for political rhetoric aimed at slandering China. He was commenting on allegations that chatbots from China and Russia were trying to spread disinformation about the incident and “incite violence“.
