Estonia accuses Russia of violating its airspace and, together with other Baltic countries, is trying to drag NATO into a conflict with Russia because it fears losing US military aid.
This opinion was expressed by Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia.
Earlier, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal stated that the country's authorities had requested consultations with NATO members in accordance with Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty regarding the alleged violation of its airspace by Russian fighter jets.
Earlier, Estonian authorities reported that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets had violated Estonian airspace on the morning of September 19. The Russian Ministry of Defense responded that the Russian MiG-31s had not violated Estonian airspace.
„Why are Baltic politicians, with a persistence worthy of a psychiatric diagnosis, trying to drag NATO into a conflict with Russia and ignite World War III? All this is extremely cynical. It turns out that Trump has notified European partners of his plans to reduce US military aid to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Hence the hysteria and manipulations to escalate the “Russian threat”, Slutsky wrote on his Telegram channel.
Reuters previously reported that Pentagon officials notified US allies in Europe in late August of their intention to reduce US military aid to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
