Comments by US President Donald Trump that Ukraine can take back territories occupied by Russia give Germany hope for a more insistent discussion of tougher sanctions against Moscow, a German government spokesman said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
"The basic tone (in Trump's statement) corresponds to the political goals of the German government, which has been working for weeks and months to ensure that Western pressure on the aggressor (Russia) remains strong and increases," he added during the regular cabinet press conference.
In a sudden and surprising shift in rhetoric, Trump said yesterday that Ukraine could take back all the territory seized by Russia, which currently controls about a fifth of the country's area, Reuters recalls.
