A memorandum of understanding for strategic cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes was signed yesterday by Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, reported “Türkiye Today“, BTA reported.
The signing took place within the framework of the meeting between the presidents of the two countries, Donald Trump and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at the White House.
Although the Turkish Ministry of Energy does not provide further details about the memorandum, official sources have indicated that the two countries are in talks to build large-scale nuclear power plants, as well as small modular reactors. Until now, Turkey has been developing nuclear energy cooperation with Russia.
After the meeting, US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barak confirmed that the deal for the purchase of Boeing passenger aircraft from the Turkish national carrier Turkish Airlines has been agreed.
This morning, Turkish Airlines, quoted by Reuters, specified that it would order 75 Boeing B787 aircraft, of which 50 are firm orders and 25 are options. The airline also announced that it had completed negotiations for the purchase of 150 Boeing 737-8/10 MAX aircraft. Details of the suppliers of engines for the aircraft are still being specified. Deliveries are planned for the period 2029 - 2034
