The Ukrainian Air Force will create a new unit - forces with unmanned air defense systems to ensure the protection of the civilian population and critical infrastructure against drone attacks, the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform reported, quoted by BTA.
This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky in a conversation with journalists.
Syrsky explained that these are Ukrainian and foreign-made interceptor drones that can intercept attacking "Shahed" drones with a high efficiency rate - 70% and more. Currently, combat units equipped with such drones are being created and expanded.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian forces is also developing other areas, such as increasing the number of combat helicopters, which have proven to be quite effective in combating drones.
In addition, the commander-in-chief said that there are plans to develop light aircraft equipped with machine guns, which are also effective in fighting Shahed drones.
As reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian forces neutralized 128 Russian drones in an attack that began yesterday evening. In total, Russia launched 154 drones against Ukraine that night.
