China has sentenced a former agriculture minister to death with a pardon for bribery, Reuters reported.
Tang Renjiang took bribes, including cash and property worth more than 268 million yuan, in various positions held from 2007 to 2024. He was sentenced in a court in Jilin province.
The Changchun People's Court suspended his death sentence for two years, noting that he had confessed to his crimes.
The Chinese Communist Party expelled Tang in November 2024, six months after he was investigated by anti-corruption watchdog and removed from office.
The investigation into the former minister was unusually swift and followed similar investigations into Defense Minister Li Shangfu and his predecessor Wei Fenghe.
President Xi Jinping has said that corruption is the biggest threat to the Chinese Communist Party and continues to grow.
