Former US special counsel Jack Smith, who worked on the 2021 Capitol storming, is now paying the price for his poor performance during the Biden administration.
This was stated by US President Donald Trump in an interview with Newsmax, commenting on reports that Smith monitored the private emails and phone calls of Republican senators.
“I learned about it recently“, Trump said. “Jack Smith was a vile, bad man, a terrible man who always went overboard. He was a cruel and terrible prosecutor, and now he's paying the price.“
Earlier, Fox News, citing a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) document obtained by the channel, reported that Smith and his subordinates had access to the phone records of officials and Republican senators in 2023, when Biden was in office.
Last September, Trump accused the FBI of instigating the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, by his supporters who stormed the building to prevent the certification of the results of the November 2020 presidential election, which Biden won. During the unrest in Congress, police shot and killed a protester. Several other unrelated deaths classified as medical emergencies were also recorded. A Capitol Police officer died after the clashes.
