China: Taiwan's president is selling out to foreigners - 1

Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te is "selling out" to foreigners in an attempt to curry their favor, but his schemes are doomed to failure. The Chinese government has responded to Lai Ching-te's comments that US President Donald Trump should receive the Nobel Peace Prize if he can persuade Chinese leader Xi Jinping to refrain from using force against Taiwan, Reuters reported.

According to China's Taiwan Affairs Office, Lai was "spewing nonsense", thus revealing his true nature as a crisis maker and peace destroyer, adding in the statement that since the Taiwanese president took office last year, he has been "frenziedly spreading separatist delusions".

"He has engaged in unscrupulous external servility and bottomless selling out of Taiwan, wasting the flesh and blood of the people, selling himself out and linking his fate with foreign powers", the Chinese Taiwan Affairs Office said.

The Chinese statement also stressed that efforts to achieve independence by relying on foreign powers are doomed to failure: "Lai Ching-te and the "Taiwan independence" forces are just ants shaking a tree: they will eventually be swept into the dustbin of history".

The statement also comes just two days before Lai is to deliver his keynote speech on National Day on Friday, October 10.
