The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, said on Monday that the EU is starting to fund a special tribunal to prosecute Russian President Vladimir Putin and other senior Russian officials for the crime of aggression against Ukraine, and called on other countries to do the same, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
“We created this specialized tribunal for the crime of aggression, but now we are also providing funding for it“, Kallas said at a joint press conference in Kiev with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“We call on other member states, countries, participants to also fund it so that the work can really start in full scale, because without accountability there is no just and lasting peace“, she added she.
In response to a question about the Tomahawk missiles that US President Donald Trump has said he might send to Ukraine if the conflict is not resolved, Kallas said it was up to Kiev to decide whether Ukraine needed the missiles for its defense. "It's not up to us to say, it's up to Ukraine to say what it really needs," she said.
