US President Donald Trump announced that he will visit China early next year at the invitation of Beijing, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
"I was invited to visit China and I will do it sometime early next year", Trump told reporters at the White House. "In a sense, we've already arranged it", the American leader said.
Trump noted that he expects to work out a fair trade agreement with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump also indicated that he plans to accelerate the planned deliveries of nuclear-powered submarines to Australia. In this, the US president signaled his readiness to reduce tensions between Washington and Beijing, but at the same time to strengthen defense ties with a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region, notes Reuters.
Trump announced the news of the invitation from Beijing shortly before hosting Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the White House.
"China doesn't want us to do this", Trump said of the submarine delivery, but expressed confidence that relations between Washington and Beijing would improve.
After praising the size and strength of the US military, Trump said: "We have the best of everything and nobody is going to interfere with that" I think we're going to get a very good trade deal. Both sides will be happy".
The US president declined to comment on recent allegations that Beijing is pressuring Washington to withdraw its support for Taiwan independence.
