A group of Chinese H-6K bombers recently flew near Taiwan to conduct “confrontation action drills“, Chinese state media reported, quoted by Reuters. The news came just days before the US and Chinese presidents met in South Korea, BTA reported.
Taiwan, which China considers its territory, sends fighter jets and warships to the island region daily, although the Taipei Defense Ministry has not reported any unusual activities recently.
The account of the military channel of Chinese state television on “Weibo“ reported that recently – without specifying a date – units of the Eastern Command conducted combat drills to test their capabilities in areas such as air blockades and precision strikes.
“Several J-10 fighter jets flew in combat formation to a designated airspace, and several H-6K bombers headed to the waters and airspace around Taiwan Island to conduct simulated confrontation drills“, the channel added, without specifying the location.
The H-6K is a strategic bomber that can carry nuclear weapons, Reuters recalls.
