California Governor Gavin Newsom - one of the most active Democrats when it comes to criticizing US President Donald Trump - confirmed that he is considering running for president, DPA reported, BTA reported.
When asked if he was seriously considering running for president in 2028, 58-year-old Newsom told CBS: “Otherwise, I would be lying. I would just lie, and I can't do that“.
Newsom also said that President Trump is a “destructive force“.
Newsom has been opposing Trump for months, both through lawsuits and bills, and by parodying his style on social media, DPA notes.
The Democrat has filed a lawsuit to regain control of the California National Guard from Trump. Newsom has passed a package of laws to "respond to federal interference" and is campaigning to change California's electoral district boundaries to counter Republican efforts to do the same in other parts of the United States.
Newsom's team has mimicked Trump's use of AI-generated imagery, Trump's style of capitalization, and the closing line: "Thank you for your attention to this issue," which is ubiquitous in Trump's social media posts.
