US expels Belgian general who called Trump's actions "brutal" - 1

A Belgian military attaché in Washington has been forced to leave the US for openly criticizing President Donald Trump, Belgian media reported. It is noted that the US has put pressure on the general to leave within weeks, BTA reported.

It is specified that the Belgian military officer described Trump's policies as "chaotic and unpredictable" in an article for the monthly Belgian publication "Military Review". The article is no longer available online, but a summary of the issue's contents quoted his assessment that the first six months of Trump's second presidential term were "brutal" and have marked a new page in international relations.

The general added that it is difficult for him to assess whether this is due to a well-thought-out strategy or to a "day-to-day" policy and the president's desire to be at the forefront of the news flow with a presence on the front pages.

According to the Belgian media, the entourage of US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is directly involved in decisions on this case.

Despite this incident, the US and Belgium maintain good military cooperation and in recent hours it was reported that Washington has received an offer to provide support in the fight against drones. In the last month, Belgian military bases and several airports were among those affected by drone incursions, and Germany, France and the UK have provided assistance to limit the consequences.
