China said on Monday that it "will have no choice but to take more measures" if Japan does not withdraw its "erroneous comments" and take concrete actions to "safeguard the political foundation" of bilateral ties, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's comments on Taiwan have "fundamentally damaged" the political foundation of China-Japan relations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a regular briefing.
If Japan continues to "make mistakes", China will take "strict and decisive" countermeasures and Japan will bear the consequences, she added Mao.
Given the current situation, even if Japanese seafood were imported into China, they would not find a market here, the spokeswoman said, referring to reports that China would halt imports of Japanese seafood.
Mao also said that China firmly opposes allegations by Britain's MI5 intelligence agency, which "spreads baseless allegations" that Chinese spies are posing as employees of labor recruitment agencies, and said that the Chinese side has no interest in gathering intelligence from the British parliament.
MI5 intelligence agency warned British MPs yesterday about attempts by Chinese agents to gather information and exert influence, Reuters recalls.
