A cold wave is expected to hit Turkey from tomorrow, which will cover Istanbul and many cities in the country, the Disaster Coordination Center of the Istanbul Greater Municipality /AKOM/ announced, BTA reported.

According to the weather service, snowfall is expected over the weekend in Istanbul and Ankara.

Strong northerly winds are expected to blow throughout the week with rain and snow showers in higher places. Forecasts are that temperatures, currently 11-13 degrees and above seasonal norms, will drop and from Friday onwards will drop below 10 degrees, and by Sunday evening - to below 5 degrees, reports Turkish state television TRTH Haber.

The average temperature will drop by 8 degrees in the three largest cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Rain is expected in Ankara on Friday, and snow on Saturday. Daytime temperatures will be around 4 degrees, dropping to minus 2 degrees at night.

In Istanbul on Thursday it will rain, which will turn into snow in higher places. Temperatures are expected to drop to minus 3 degrees at night over the weekend.

In Izmir, rain is expected only on Thursday. The weather will be cloudy throughout the weekend, with the highest temperature around 12 degrees.

The weather is expected to be cloudy throughout the country with precipitation in the western part of the Sea of Marmara, the Aegean coast, the western part of the Mediterranean coast, the central and eastern coasts of the Black Sea, as well as in the areas around Manisa, Yozgat, Sivas, Tokat, Sinop, Artvin, the western part of Denizli, the northern and western parts of Konya and around Zonguldak and Barton. The precipitation will be mainly rain, mixed with snowfall, in the inland areas of the Eastern Black Sea coast and around Sivas and Yozgat.
