Eastern Turkey continues to be gripped by cold weather and heavy snowfall, causing difficulties in land and air transport and a complicated situation in dozens of districts, Turkish media reported, quoted by BTA.

According to information from TRT Haber, emergency teams continue work to clear snow and reopen roads to a total of 147 settlements in the northeastern districts of Kars, Ağrı, Tunceli, Erzincan and Erzurum. Due to heavy snowfall, a ban on motorized couriers has been imposed on the territory of Sivas district, which is also located in northeastern Turkey, for today.

A complicated situation due to the heavy snowfall in recent days is also reported in many districts in southeastern Turkey, and according to TRT Haber, some roads in the Şanlıurfa district located on the Turkish-Syrian border are closed to heavy truck traffic. At the same time, the newspaper “Birgün“ reports that due to the heavy snowfall and reduced visibility, some flights from the airport in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir have been canceled.

For today, the Turkish State Meteorological Service has issued a warning of dangerous snowfall in all districts in southeastern Turkey except for Van district, as well as for the districts of Sivas and Kayseri.
