Baby Detained in Texas Denied Medical Care - 1

An 18-month-old girl detained by U.S. immigration authorities was returned to a detention center and denied medical care after being hospitalized with a life-threatening respiratory illness.

This is clear from a lawsuit filed in federal court in the state of Texas, Reuters reported, quoted by BNR.

The baby, named "Amalia" in the lawsuit, and his parents were released by immigration authorities after his mother and father filed a lawsuit on Friday.

The family was detained during a check by immigration officials on December 11 and held at a center in Dealey, Texas, the lawsuit states. Baby Amalia was hospitalized from January 18 to 28 and returned to the center in Dili at the height of a measles outbreak.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.
