Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who is currently visiting Qatar, commented on the current situation in the Middle East and Turkey's efforts to end the war there, during a press conference with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, TRT Haber reported, BTA reported.
“Israel bears responsibility for this war, which plunged our region into an unprecedented crisis. Attacks on Iran are wrong, but Iran's attacks on countries in the region are just as wrong“, Fidan commented during the joint press conference. In his statement, the Turkish Foreign Minister also stressed that Turkey “stands firm“ to the people of Qatar and said that Ankara “completely rejects attacks that disregard civilian lives“. “Such attacks can never be justified“, he added.
“Turkey is doing everything it can to stop the war. We are talking to both the Americans and the Iranians. We are trying to find a way to stop the war in the region before it escalates further“, Fidan also stressed.
During his visit to Qatar today, the Turkish Interior Minister visited the headquarters of the Qatar Joint Forces Command – Turkey and discussed the tension in the Middle East and the possibilities for de-escalation of the conflict there with the country's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
Fidan's visit to Qatar comes just two days after he announced that he would visit Middle Eastern countries to seek a way to end the war in Iran. Yesterday, the Turkish foreign minister met with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud and Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in the Saudi capital Riyadh. There, the three participated in a meeting dedicated to the events in the Middle East region, which was also attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt, Syria, Kuwait and Pakistan.
