Iran will completely close the strategic Strait of Hormuz if US President Trump follows through on his threats to strike Iranian energy facilities, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said today, quoted by Reuters.
Trump threatened yesterday to "obliterate" Iranian power plants if Tehran does not fully open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, which was a significant escalation of tensions only a day after the US president spoke of a "gradual end" to the war, which has been going on for four weeks.
In its statement today, the IRGC also said that companies in which the US has a stake will be "fully destroyed“ if Iranian energy facilities are attacked by Washington, and energy facilities in countries where there are US bases would be “legitimate“ targets.
