Pirates seized the Honor 25 tanker, which was traveling from the Persian Gulf to Somalia.

The incident occurred about 50 kilometers from the Somali coast between the cities of Berbera and Mogadishu, Goobjoog reported, citing sources from state security services.

The tanker, which was carrying 18,500 tons of fuel, had a crew of 17 sailors on board, including citizens of India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Earlier, the Royal Navy's Maritime Trade Organization (UKMTO) reported the seizure of the tanker off the coast of Somalia and advised other ships to exercise caution. The UKMTO notice states that the tanker's hijackers "moved the vessel 77 nautical miles (143 km) south into Somali territorial waters."

This incident, the portal notes, marks the first outbreak of piracy off the coast of Somalia since 2011, when international efforts successfully suppressed it.
