Romanian authorities announced that late Thursday they found parts, possibly from a drone, on a farm near the Danube River and the border with Ukraine, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Russia strikes targets in western and central Ukraine with missiles and drones, which it conducts at night, the agency recalls.
„On the evening of March 28, 2024, parts of what appeared to be parts of an aerial vehicle (drone) were identified on agricultural land in Insula Mare a Brăile (Great Braille, an island in the Danube River – note ed.) “, the Romanian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
„The Ministry of National Defense, together with the specialized structures within the system of national defense, public order and national security, is conducting an investigation into the incident,”, the announcement also states.
NATO has a mutual defense commitment if one of its members is attacked, but the Atlantic alliance and Romanian officials have said after similar incidents in the past that they have found no evidence of a deliberate attack on Romania.
On Sunday, a Russian missile entered the airspace of Poland, also a NATO member. Warsaw said early Friday that it had raised its air defenses in response to Russian missile strikes on Ukraine.
