A magnitude 6.1 earthquake has struck northern Japan - 1

An earthquake, which according to preliminary information had a magnitude of 6.1, shook Iwate and Aomori prefectures in northern Japan last night, the Japan Meteorological Agency reported, as quoted by Reuters.

The epicenter was in the northern coastal part of Iwate Prefecture, BTA specified.

Authorities added that there is no need to issue a tsunami warning.

There are currently no reports of damage.
