A meeting with students at the "Tongji" University is planned. and a visit to an innovation center of the German plastic manufacturer "Covestro" (Covestro).
A meeting with Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jingning is scheduled for later in the day.
Shanghai is the German chancellor's second stop during his three-day visit to China. Scholz spent the first day of his visit in Chongqing. Tomorrow he will be in Beijing for talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.
Olaf Scholz and German businessmen arrived in China at a time when the European Union is taking measures to protect European manufacturers from the competition of cheaper Chinese electric cars, DPA notes.
Together with the chancellor in China are a dozen heads of companies, among them the heads of car manufacturers "Mercedes-Benz" and Be Em Ve.
