Estonia accuses Russia of violating international law over GPS jamming - 1

Estonia accused Russia of violating international airspace rules by jamming GPS -signals. The foreign minister of the Baltic country said that he will consider the issue with his partners from NATO and the European Union, Reuters and News.bg report.

Airline Finnair on Monday announced the temporary suspension of flights to Tartu in eastern Estonia for a month due to ongoing GPS signal interference that prevented two planes from landing.

The Finnish airline said it did not know where the disturbance originated, but had reported similar problems in the past near the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad and Finland's eastern border with Russia.

"GPS interference in Estonian airspace by the RF (Russian Federation) affected civil aviation in our region. In this way, Russia is violating international regulations,", Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said on social media X late Monday, without providing evidence to support the claim.

Neither the Kremlin nor Russia's Defense Ministry immediately responded to requests for comment.

Tsakhna said that Estonia would take up the issue with other NATO and EU countries and that he had already discussed it with his colleagues from Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and Sweden.

Earlier this month, Germany said Russia was most likely behind a series of disruptions affecting navigation in the Baltic region.

The German Ministry of Defense named Kaliningrad as their source, but declined to give any details, citing "military reasons".
