Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that he is the only one who is fighting for peace in the EU, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.
Orban made this statement after an assassination attempt on his political ally, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico.
"Today we must multiply efforts and fight for peace alone," said on Facebook the Hungarian nationalist leader, who made the issue of the war in Ukraine the number one stake in the European elections on June 9.
After Fico returned to power in October, Slovakia reversed course and ended military aid to Ukraine, while pleading for peace talks with Russia.
Prime Minister Fico was seriously injured yesterday in an attack in Central Slovakia, which will take him out of "management" probably for a few months.
"His absence comes at a crucial moment,", emphasized Orban today, who hopes to upset the balance in the European Parliament. Orban remains very close to Moscow despite the Russian invasion of Ukraine, while his relations with Kiev are strained.
