Representatives of the Austrian army warned at last night's discussion of the Austrian Institute for European Policy and security policy (AIEPS) that Ukraine is in a serious military situation, before the peace conference on Ukraine in Switzerland this weekend, the Austrian news agency APA reported, quoted by BTA.
At the conference in Switzerland, key security issues will be discussed, and a large number of heads of state and government, including Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Nehhammer, have confirmed their participation.
Peter Vorhofer, head of the "Defense Policy and International Relations" Directorate; in the Ministry of Defense, analyzes that Ukraine has been able to last until now because it has great military potential. But "quantity will always play a role", and in this respect it is inferior to Russia. We may be facing a "tipping point" in the war, after which the situation for Kiev may become hopeless, said Vorhofer.
Ukraine is dependent on its "friends in need", primarily the EU and the US, which may also find themselves in a critical situation due to insufficient resources and a lack of clear solutions. "In the information war, hesitation and disunity can have catastrophic consequences," Vorhofer said during the discussion at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna.
In the words of the military expert, Russia has revealed very well the weaknesses of the West, namely the lack of will to persevere in Europe and the internal political problems in the USA. An opportunity opens up for Moscow and Beijing to take advantage of the "inability of the EU to act". The expert summarized that Russia will not give up the war, because its outcome will depend on what will be the balance of power between the major players in the international arena.
There is "nothing to be silent about", added the deputy chief of defense Bruno Hofbauer and said that the views from Ukraine reminded him of those of the First World War. "Logistics and leadership are the deciding factor," Hofbauer said. According to him, Russia continues to strive to conquer more territories in Ukraine, other military conflicts around the world should not be overlooked, therefore Europe and Austria must maintain the necessary combat capability.
Russia and China will not be present at the upcoming conference. In addition to Nehamer, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who asked Switzerland to organize the conference, US Vice President Kamala Harris and at least 90 other delegations are expected to attend the conference.
According to the Swiss news agency "KEYSTONE-ES De A" "extreme security measures" are in place to ensure everything goes smoothly, including safeguards against biological and cyber attacks, as well as against espionage.
