Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelensky ordered the new head of Ukraine's State Security Service to purge its ranks of people who discredit it after two of its officers were accused of plotting to kill senior officials, Reuters reported, citing BTA.
Last month, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) said it had captured two security service colonels accused of collaborating with Russia in a plot to kill Zelensky and other officials, including military intelligence chief Kirill Budanov.
The State Security Service ensures the security of various government officials, Reuters recalls.
During Colonel Oleksiy Morozov's presentation to the General Staff, Zelensky stated that his main task is to ensure that only those who see their future linked to Ukraine join the agency. This is the first comment of the Ukrainian president after the arrest of the agents.
"And, of course, the agency should be purged of all those who do not choose Ukraine for themselves or discredit the state security service," he stressed in "Telegram".
Zelensky fired Morozov's predecessor, Sergiy Rud, in May, two days after the SSU detained agency officials it said worked for Russia's Federal Security Service and leaked classified information. There was no comment from Moscow.
