Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who has consistently opposed EU aid to Ukraine and maintains relations with Russia, will travel to Kiev on Tuesday for the first time since the beginning of the Russian aggression, summarized the Russian edition of the BBC.
On Monday, the British newspapers "Financial Times" and "The Guardian", citing anonymous sources in Budapest and Kiev.
"Orbán will be here tomorrow unless something changes at the last minute," quoted the "Guardian" his interlocutor in Kyiv.
There is still no official word on the visit from either side.
Sources in Budapest explained that Orbán decided to visit Kiev after Ukraine made concessions to Hungary on the issue of special rights for the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia in order to overturn Hungary's veto on the start of EU membership talks.
On July 1, Hungary took over the EU presidency for six months, but a source in Kiev told the Guardian that it was not yet entirely clear in what capacity Orban was going to Ukraine: as prime minister of his country or as representative of the EU.
"Here there is clearly a conflict between the interests of the EU and Budapest,", the interlocutor told the newspaper.
